Hi. My 5150 is hissing very much (both the clean and lead channel). I have heard that you can replace some of the 12ax7 tubes with 12at7 to reduce the hissing. The clean sound should also be better with 12at7 tubes (so i've heard). Which tube/tubes should I replace ?? What do your "gain reduction" mod do, does it just lower the preamp gain or does it filter the signal in a different way as well? Does it affect just the clean channel or is active on both channels? I tried a TC G-major in the effects loop and I noticed that the 5150:s post gain worked as send level for the loop, and if I want to play with low volume the G-major has very little signal to play with (and the noise gate in the g-major will kill my tiny signal ). I have looked in the 5150 schematics and thought of replacing the R26 1MOhm resistor with a 1MOhm pot to be able to lower the volume after the loop (I would use the post gain knobs as individual send levels for the clean and lead channels). Do you think this will work? Will it work good? regards Tobbe _____________ Listen to my band at: www.thishaven.com

Lower gain tubes will help some but they don't work the same way my mods do. How about using a volume pedal or volume box on the return side of your G-Major? I'm not a G-Major user but I think I read something online about changing setting in the G-Major that allow it to work better with the 5150. Try searching the Peavey amp forum for some info on that or the TC Electronics site. Jerry

Is your mod working on just the clean ch or on both clean and lead ch ?? In what position/positions would it help to swap tubes for lower gain? How about using a volume pedal or volume box on the return side of your G-Major? Jerry I'm just litte afraid of reducing the volume in the loop, cause if I accidently turn the loop off I'll become deaf because the post gain is set very high to push some signal into the g-major. I thought it would be safer to reduce the volume after the effects loop. Do you think my idea will work (changing the resistor for a pot) ?? regards Tobbe _____________ Listen to my band at: www.thishaven.com

Sorry, I don't give out technical info about my mods. The volume pedal would do the same thing as the pot without modding the amp. Jerry
