I love 5150s, next to the Marshall Silver Jubilee model they are my favorite amps, except for one thing...the one/two second dropout when you change channels! I have never played one that doesn't exhibit this problem. Seemingly all multi channel Peavey amps made for the last 15 years (except for the tweed Classic series) has this problem. What can be done? I noticed that Voodoo Amps make it very clear that they do not mod the switching on Peavey amps, which clearly refers to the dropout problem.
Jerry, can you fix this? I can't find any reference to it on your sight.
Thanks!

I've never really noticed any problems with the channels switching. Peavey uses a clamping circuit which provides a very quick muting action during switching to keep the amp from making pop noises. In all amps you generally will have some type of slight delay or pop, there's no way around it. Jerry

Jerry, thank you for your response. The clamping circuit explanation clears up a lot. There is a definite mute when switching channels on most Peavey amps (again, except for the tweed Classic series) which is incredibly annoying to me. I have an original Dual Rectifier, both the Marshall Silver Jubilee and Slash models and a Carvin X100B which are all channel switching amps and none of them have a pop or mute when switching channels. Just instantaneous switching. My 5150 and Special 212 combo both have the mute which for me renders them unusable as multi channel amps. Is it possible to replace the clamping circuit with one that doesn't mute? I would love it if that were possible. Does the Rockmaster preamp also have the clamping circuit? I hope not!
