I just ordered a G-System and im wondering exactly how it's going to handle channel switching on my 5150..
the problem im worrying about is that as far as i know when you send a channel change via the footswitch cable on the 5150 it just changes to the channel you arent on at the time, and im worried this will be a problem with the setup im hoping to do with the g-system.. explained below.
patch 1 (dry clean - maby with reverb/comp etc..)
patch 2 (clean with other effects - chorus/delay etc)
patch 3 (spacey clean maby..)
patch 4 (dry lead chan)
patch 5 (lean chan with delay)
obviously i'll need to put a channel change send to the 5150 in each of those patches so that you can go from the patches involving the lead channel to the clean ones in any combination... but the problem is here, what if i want to go from clean patch 1 to clean patch 2.. im worried that there is no way to have the amp stay on clean while it already is.. do i need to get my amp moded to do this? or am i worrying about nothing?
as i figure it the marshall setup (ie where you have one footswitch for each channel?) would solve the problem - is it possiable to set the 5150 up like that?
would be great if someone can help me out here..
problem 2:
i also need the effects loop to be on all the time...
but that can be done with a Y cable right..?
any help really would be appericated.

I don't own a G-Major (yet!) so I can say for sure how they work. I know several guys have purchased the cable from me for the 5150II to use the G-Major and love it. A TRS stereo cable from the G-Major to the 5150 will allow you to switch between the rhythm and lead channels and let you turn the loop on and off. You'll have to select clean or crunch with the button on the front of the amp. Jerry

thanks for the reply though i think you might have misread, i was talking about the G-System, but to cut the problem down for you i was wondering if you can actually select the "rhythm channel" or the "lead" channel on the 5150 or if you can only select to switch to whatever one you arent currently on? maby im completely wrong here, the only thing making me think that is the 5150 footswitch.. so i guess thats not much to go off but i thought you if anyone would know what is the case

Whoops, you're right, I read it wrong. I'm not familiar with the G- System at all yet. I assume it works a lot like the G-Major in that it has a couple relays for switching. All they do is command the relay open or closed to switch channels on the amp. As far as I know you program each patch with how you want the relay to work, opened or closed so when you change patches the amp is switched to whichever channel you need. You can switch patches and have them set for the same channel. You don't have to switch to a different channel with each patch change. Jerry
